The very core of life in our nation, America's very essence is freedom. What truly sets Americans apart from the rest of the world is our freedoms. Freedom to speak and express our thoughts and beliefs, the expression of, or just as importantly the lack of expression towards religious beliefs is paramount and unique to our way of life. Truth be told, how we feel and what we as Americans believe is our right and no one; no media company, no politician, no nation, Americans believe that no one person has any right demanding unity of thought. Americans are an independent lot, and at our core is the simple fact that no one can lord their beliefs over another. Furthermore, no reasonable person should put down another for their beliefs.

Hatred and scorn when heaped of those whom you disagree with only is an indicator of your own fears and prejudices. Thoughtful and insightful conversation is only a reality in a society that accepts and embraces its diversity of culture and all beliefs with respect. If America is truly to be a “melting pot” of the world, then we need to embrace, not necessarily agree, but at least listen to the sincere and honest thoughts of others.
