In a letter from Thomas Jefferson to James Madison dated March 6th, 1796 objecting to a proposal of Madison’s for the use of federal money towards road improvements that were used for mail delivery, Jefferson is quoted...“Have you considered all the consequences of your proposition respecting post roads? I view it as a source of boundless patronage to the executive, jobbing to members of Congress & their friends, and a bottomless abyss of public money. You will begin by only appropriating the surplus of the post office revenues; but the other revenues will soon be called into their aid, and it will be a scene of eternal scramble among the members, who can get the most money wasted in their State; and they will always get most who are meanest.”
Now we at MyOneVote.Com do not suggest for one moment that the federal government should not be spending our tax dollars on roads and our infrastructure. However Jefferson’s point must be well taken that the possibility of abuse is quite high. It has to be conceded that Jefferson was correct in his assumption that “other” revenues would “soon be called into their aid...” One example today, Social Security, it is broke. Those funds entrusted to the government have been replaced by what will be worthless IOU’s, those funds being used for other projects. Many of them not a necessity.
Think of the many government projects costing millions and billions of dollars in overruns, years behind in completion, our money wasted! In the private sector that would never happen. We don’t mean to “ask the same redundant question time and time again” but what has our Government done right lately? Can you name one thing, one law, one process our Government does right today?
The national interest cannot be held in the highest regard when elected officials in their perpetual quest for reelection continue to spend only to benefit themselves. Limiting the time of service of our elected officials would stop this practice of spending as only a way to gain popularity at home.
Allowing the cycle of perpetuity when considering the length of service we allow our elected officials to spend in office, only creates the problem of obnoxious behavior and wasteful spending. This is true today. Jefferson seems to have been right in his concerns at least when it comes to government waste.
The solution is simple, it is American, and it is best for America. Just vote them all out of office, it is just that simple. Join in the national voter revolt in 2010. Its the only thing that makes sense.
